Information: Engineer-Lieutenant Samuel Alan Adams, R.N., aged 34, was the second son of Mr. S. A. Adams, J.P., of Northlands, Carrickmacross, and great-grandson of the Very Rev. Samuel Adams, Dean of Cashel. He was educated at King's Hospital and entered the merchant service at 18, and becoming Commodore-chief at 27. He then obtained a commission in the Royal Navy, and was appointed to H.M.S. Indefatigable, on which he remained until she was lost in the battle of Jutland, May 31
