Information: Second Lieutenant J. W. Salter, 11th Batt. Royal Irish Rifles, who has been killed in action, was the elder son of Mr. and Mrs. Salter, Skibbereen. He was educated at Kilkenny College, and subsequently entered the Civil Service Rifles. He belonged to the Civil Service Rifles and was well known in Rugby circles. He obtained his commission in the 18th Batt. Royal Irish Rifles in March, 1915, and was later gazetted to the 1 ith Battalion. He went to France in February, 1916, and was killed during the offensive on July 1st.
