Information: Lieutenant James Dermot Neill, Machine Gun Corps, 108th Brigade Ulster Division. Killed on the 1st July in the splendid attack made by this Division in the battle of the Somme. He was 29 years of age. Educated at Royal Academical Institution, Belfast, and Alderham School, Herts, on the outbreak of war he was among the first to join the 13th Batt. Royal Irish Rifles (the Down Regiment), afterwards joining the Machine Gun Company of his Brigade. He was on the Committee or the Royal North of Ireland Yacht Club and a member of Holywood Golf Club, in both of which sports he was an enthusiast. Mr. Neill was the eldest son of Mr. Sharman D. Neill, Donegall Place, Belfast, and Cultra, Co. Down.
