Information: Second Lieutenant Hugh Alexander Small, 20th King's (Liverpool) Regiment, who was killed in action on 11th July, was the only son of Mr. Alexr. Small, Keady, Co. Armagh, and former student of McCrea-M‘Gee College, Londonderry. He was awarded the Military Cross tor conspicuous gallantry during a heavy bombardment by the enemy on 9th May. He displayed great coolness, helped to dress the wounded, and after being himself covered with earth by the explosion of a shell, continued to work till all the wounded had been removed.
