Information: Lieut-Colonel Carroll Charles Macnamara, Royal Irish Rifles, who was fatally wounded in action on July 1st, 1916, while commanding his regiment, was the elder son of Mr. Charles Nottidge Macnamara, F.R.C.S., of Chorley Wood, Herts. He was educated at Winchester and received his commission in 1806. While with his regiment in South Africa he was appointed A.D.C. to Lord Milner. He had seen much service in India and China, and in 1908 was seconded with the Egyptian Army and held the rank of Kaimakam Commanding the Equatorial Battalion, which he commanded on active service, and received the Order of the Nile. He resigned his command in Egypt to serve in Gallipoli. He was Staff Major to General Lord Hampden, and was wounded. He afterwards served as Brigade Major at Bedford, and in May last rejoined the Royal Irish Rifles at the front.
