Information: Second Lieutenant Hayden Floyd, R.F.C., aged 20 years, was the only son of Dr. Ferguson Floyd, of Kilkeel, Co. Down, and a descendant of Captain Chesney, of Mourne, Co. Down, many of the members of whose family have distinguished themselves in military careers, notably perhaps General F. R. Chesney, R.A., of Euphrates fame. He joined on the outbreak of war as a despatch rider R.E., and after over a year's service he was granted a commission in the Royal Flying Corps. On July 9th, while on an offensive patrol over German lines, his battleplane was shot down and he was badly wounded. He succumbed to his injuries on July 11th, and was buried by the Germans in a marked grave at the Chateau of Fabreuil, near Bapaume
