Information: Second Lieutenant Arthur Denman Deane, 1st Batt. Royal Irish Regiment, was killed in action on July 14th, 1916. He was educated at the Royal Academical Institution, Belfast, and subsequently passed through his Engineering Course with Messrs. Workman, and Clark, Belfast. On the outbreak of the war he joined the Royal Engineers as despatch rider, and went to France in October, 1914. He was given a commission in the 1st Batt. Royal Irish Regiment, in May, 1915, and was attached to the 2nd Battalion when he fell in a counter-attack whilst gallantly defending a strong post he had captured. Lieut. Deane was a son of Mr. F.J. Deane, Knockdene Park, Belfast.
