Information: Major George Horner Gaffikin, 9th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles, the only son of Mr. William Gaffikin, King's Castle, Ardglass, Co. Down, was killed in action on July 1st, 1916. Major Gaffikin was educated at Uppingham and Clare College. Cambridge, and was a Scholar both of this School and University. He entered the Army at the outbreak of war, receiving his commission in the Ulster Division. He was a very able officer, and had been mentioned in despatches in June, 1916.
