Information: Second-Lieutenant N.H. Archdale Porter, 9th Lancers, was awarded the Military Cross for conspicuous gallantry in rushing forward in charge of a bombing party, when a mine was exploded, thus covering the working party and keeping the enemy back until the position was consolidated, though under heavy machine gun and rifle fire. Lieutenant Porter is the second son of Mr. John Porter Porter, D.L., Lisbellaw, Co. Fermanagh, and a brother of Capt, J. G. Porter, D.S.O., also serving with the 9th Lancers. He was educated at Harrow, and when war broke out was second manager on the estancia of Dom Miguel Martinez-de-Hoz, in the Argentine, but gave up his appointment and joined the 9th Lancers.
