Information: Lieutenant Reginald James Hurst Gatrell, 3rd Batt. East Yorkshire Regiment, was awarded the Military Cross for conspicuous gallantry near Vermelles on September 29th and 30th 1915, when he led a bombing party against the Germans, who had broken into the trenches of the battalion on the left. Lieut. Gatrell succeeded in forcing the enemy behind their barricades, but was severely wounded. On his recovery he again joined the fighting line, and was killed in France during the advance on July 1st last, in his 20th year. He was the younger son of Mr. Walter H. Gatrell, T.C. Fulham, London and nephew of Mr. T.F. Cogan, 8 Richmond Hill, Rathmines, whose eldest son, Lieutenant L. Cogan is also with the colours.
