Information: Lieutenant Eric Calpoy Hodges, Royal Irish Regiment, was killed in the battle of the Somme on July 15th, 1916. He was the third son of the Rev. Richard Jas. Hodges, M.A., Rector of St. Mary's Collegiate Church, Youghal. He was educated at Cork Grammar School and Bishop Fay School, Waterford. On the outbreak of the war, though not yet in his 17th year, he received a commission in the Royal Munster Fusiliers in August, 1914. He was afterwards selected for a Cadetship in Sandhurst, on leaving which he was gazetted to the Royal Irish Regiment. He was a young officer of exceptional promise, and for the efficiency of his work had been recommended for accelerated promotion.
