Information: Captain Maurice Fletcher, Royal Munster Fusiliers, who was killed in action on September 9th, 1916, was the son of the late Rev. W. H. Fletcher, Rector of Swalecliffe, Kent, and Mrs. Fletcher, 14 Regent Road, Birkdale, Southport. He was educated at St. Edmund's School, Canterbury, subsequently gaining an open Scholarship at Selwyn College, Cambridge, where he took Honours Degree in Classics. On the outbreak of the war he was assistant master in Wakefield Grammar School, but enlisted in the Public Schools Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers, and in Dec., 1914, was given his commission in the Munster Fusiliers, being promoted Captain in the following October. He had been in France since December, 1915.
