Information: Captain John Edwin Sugden, Royal Irish Rifles, has been awarded the D.S.O. for conspicuous gallantry in action. He took command of a battalion when his commanding officer was killed at a critical moment in the advance. Under heavy machine gun and trench mortar fire he handled the two leading companies with great skill and courage. Later he went back to fetch the two remaining companies.
