Information: Lieutenant Theophilus Legate Calwell M.C., 9th Royal Fusiliers, who was killed in action on October 7th, 1916, was a son of Mr. Walter Calwell, Spafield, Holywood, Co. Down. On the outbreak of the war he was in the employment of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank, London, but at once enlisted in the 10th Batt. Royal Fusiliers, and afterwards received his commission in the 9th Battalion. On August 25th last he had been awarded the Military Cross for conspicuous gallantry in action. He had been wounded on three occasions, and fell whilst gallantly leading his company at the Somme.
