Information: Second Lieutenant John McCurdy, Hampshire Regiment, died in France on August 9, 1916, from the effects of gas. He was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. McCurdy, Waterside, Londonderry, and was educated at Foyle College, Londonderry, and King's College, London. He joined the Army for the South African war, in which he was wounded. At the outbreak of the present war he was Squadron Quartermaster Sergeant Major in the 5th Lancers, and went to France with the First Expeditionary Force and had fought all through the campaign from Mons to the Somme. He obtained his commission in the Hampshire Regiment in June, 1916.
