Information: Second Lieutenant William Uniacke Pery Powell, East Yorks Regiment and R.F.C., died on October 20th, 1916, as the result of illness contracted whilst on active service at the front. He was the younger son of the late Rev. F.P.N. Powell, of Bawnlahan, Co. Cork, and was educated at Monkton Comb School, Bath. He went to Canada in 1910, and on the outbreak of the war he volunteered and joined the 88th Canadian Regiment. He came over in September, 1914, and obtained his commission in the 9th East Yorks. In September, 1915, he was attached to the 6th Battalion and sent to Suvla. After the evacuation he served in Egypt, and in July, 1916, was sent to France, where he was attached to the R.F.C.
