Information: Captain Arthur Purefoy Irwin Samuels, Royal Irish Rifles, was killed in action on September 24th, 1916. He was the only son of Mr. Arthur Warren Samuels, K.C., and was educated at St. Stephen's Green School and Trinity College. He was called to the Bar in 1910, and joined the North-West Circuit. On the outbreak of the war he at once joined the R.I. Rifles and was promoted Captain in February, 1915. He was wounded at the beginning of the Somme offensive, necessitating an operation; on recovery he rejoined his battalion and served continuously in the fighting line until fatally wounded on 23rd September.
