Information: Lieutenant Richard Stapleton Barry Townsend, Royal Irish Fusiliers, was killed in action in France on July 1st, 1916. He was the fourth and youngest son of Mr. N.L. Townsend, retired Resident Magistrate, Cathedral Close, Armagh. Lieutenant Townsend received his commission in the 9th Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers in September, 1914. In November, 1915, he was attached to the 10th (Reserve) Battalion at Lurgan, and subsequently at Newtownards. In February, 1916, he rejoined the 9th Battalion at the front.
