Information: Second Lieutenant Charles R. Cooney, 7th Royal Dublin Fusiliers, attached 2nd Royal Irish Rifles, was in his 22nd year when he fell in action on October 9th, 1916. After a very successful school career he passed into the 2nd Division, Civil Service, and was serving in the Finance Department of the D.M.P. when war broke out. He at once offered himself, and was given a commission in the 7th Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers. He went to France on July 20th, 1916, and was attached to the 2nd R.I.R., with whom he served until he fell. He was a very promising voting officer, and was the only son of Mr. J. L. Cooney, Moneymore, Co. Derry.
