Information: Second Lieutenant Harold Lyness, who died of wounds received in action about 1st September, 1916, was the eldest son of the late Mr. Joseph Lyness, Solicitor, Carlton House, Rosetta, and of Mrs. Lyness, now residing at 88 Fitzroy Avenue, Belfast. He was educated at St. Jude's National School and the Royal Academical Institution, subsequently entering the service of Messrs. Wm. Liddell and Co., Queen Street. With a number of other young Belfast men he enlisted in the ranks of the 6th Battalion Black Watch (Territorials) in 1914, and on 27th August, 1915, was promoted to a commission in the 5th Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers, from which he was subsequently transferred to another Battalion of that Regiment.
