Information: Capt. Julius Edward Coughlan M.C. D.C.M., 1st Middlesex Regiment, served in France with the original Expeditionary Force since August 11th, 1914. He was awarded the D.C.M. at the Battle of Loos in September, 1915, for attending wounded for two days under heavy fire, he himself badly wounded at the time. In February, 1916, he was given his commission for bravery in the field. In April, 1916, he was awarded the M.C. for conspicuous gallantry when leading a party in a successful raid on the enemy's trenches. Several of the enemy were accounted for; he himself removed obstacles in order to enter the enemy trench. In September last he received his Captaincy. On October 24th, 1916, he was killed in action in his 24th year. Captain Coughlan joined the colours as a boy and served in India.
