Information: Second Lieutenant Joseph Patrick Dignan, 4th Connaught Rangers, killed in action on the 16th October, was the eldest son of Lieutenant G.C. Dignan, Recruiting Officer, Roscommon, and was in his 27th year. At the outbreak of the war he held a lucrative position, but volunteered for active service, and joined the Manchester Regiment as a private. He was promoted to the rank of Second Lieutenant in the Connaught Rangers. During his service in France he took part in many big engagements, and was attached to the 5th Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. He was educated at St. Bede's College, Manchester.
