Information: Second Lieutenant Ernest George Boas, Royal Irish Rifles, was officially reported wounded and missing on July 1, but from private information it has been ascertained that he was killed in action on that date, aged 19 years. Lieutenant Boas was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest A. Boas, of 7 College Gardens, Belfast, and was educated at Belfast Royal Academical Institution, Campbell College, Belfast, and Clifton College, Bristol. At these schools he was a member of the O.T.C., and later on of the Queen's University, Belfast, O.T.C., whence he obtained his commission in the Special Reserve of Officers in June, 1915. He joined the 5th Royal Irish Rifles and was sent to the front in May, 1916, where he was attached to another battalion of the same regiment.
