Information: Second Lieutenant Eric Adrian Nethercote Hackett, 6th Battalion, Royal Irish Regiment, was killed at the Somme Battle whilst in command of the firing line at the taking of Ginchy on 9th September, 1916. He was the second son of Edward A. Hackett, Esq., M.Inst., C.E., Co. Surveyor of Clonmel, and grandson of Thos. Hackett, Esq., J.P., of Castletown, Ballycumber, and was educated at All Hallows School, Honiton, where he was a Sergeant in the O.T.C. He joined the Royal Irish Regiment in September, 1914. His General writes that he would have been recommended for honours for distinguished service at the taking of Guillemont, but that posthumous decorations are not granted. He was awarded the parchment certificate of the Irish Brigade for gallant conduct and devotion to duty.
