Information: Lieutenant Francis Geoffrey Downing, only son of Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Downing, of Ballyvilly, Tralee, and grandson of Mr. F. C. Downing, Clerk of the Crown and Peace for Kerry, was born in June, 1897, and educated at Downside School, near Bath. Immediately on the outbreak of the war he obtained a commission in the Middlesex Regiment, and in May, 1915, he was ordered to France where he served with his battalion in the trenches until December following, when he was attached to the R.E. Signals, with whom he served up to the time of his illness, taken early in October, and which terminated fatally at the Fulham Military Hospital, London, on the 27th ult.
