Information: Captain T. E. Burke, 5th King's Shropshire Light Infantry, died in a field hospital in France on April 11th, 1917, from wounds received in action two days previously. Captain Burke was the second son of the late Mr. Michael Burke, North Street, Lurgan. He served for three years in the ranks of the Irish Guards, and subsequently joined the R.I.C. On the outbreak of war he was called to the colours, and was rapidly promoted. He took command of his Company at the battle of Loos when all his officers were shot down, and by his courage and resource saved a critical position. He was given a commission in the 5th King's Shropshire Regiment.
