Information: Captain George Hendley Staveley, 1st Batt. (attached 2nd) the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, was killed in action at dawn at the head of his Company on April 14th. He was educated at Temple Grove and at Charterhouse and Sandhurst, he received his commission and joined the 1st Batt, at Aldershot in 1903. He served in Gibraltar, South Africa, Hong Kong, and Singapore, where he was Intelligence Officer when war broke out. He returned with his regiment and went to France; he received a slight wound and remained on duty, but later was invalided home. He went out again in July last, and from August was acting Major for about six months.
