Information: Second Lieutenant Herbert Stanislaus Tierney, 8th Battalion Cheshire Regiment, who has been missing since April, 1916, is now officially reported believed killed. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. Tierney, 14 Rostrevor Terrace, Rathgar. On the outbreak of the war Lieutenant Tierney was amongst the first Irishmen to join the colours. He fought through the Gallipoli campaign, where he distinguished himself by many acts of bravery. He was killed in Mesopotamia in the march to the relief of Kut. Lieutenant Tierney was a member of the Irish Bar.
