Information: Second Lieut. Richard Patrick Hemphill, Leinster Regiment and Royal Flying Corps, was born in Birr in 1894, and entered Trinity College, Dublin, in 1912, having been a very keen member of the Officers' Training Corps of Campbell College, Belfast, since its inception. He was in the Medical School when war broke out, and his activities extended also to the Student Volunteer Missionary Movement, and the Fuh-Kien Mission of Dublin University. He took a commission in 1914, and saw much service in France and Salonika. His career in the Flying Corps was cut short by the fall of his machine on 24th March, 1917. He was the son of Rev. Samuel Hemphill, D.D., Hamilton, Ailesbury Road, Dublin.
