Information: Rev. Wm. J. Gabriel Doyle S.J. M.C., Chaplain to the Royal Dublin Fusiliers, was killed in action at Ypres on August 17th, 1917. He was the youngest son of Mr. Hugh Doyle, Melrose, Dalkey, and a brother of Mr. Robert Doyle, K.C., Recorder of Galway. In November, 1915, he became an Army Chaplain. He went to France in February, 1916, and was mentioned in despatches and awarded the Military Cross. In the fighting at Ypres he went forward with his men, cheering them on and remaining with them until he was killed. He was a member of the Jesuit Order and was 44 years of age.
