Information: Lieutenant Donald McCann M.C., Leinster Regiment, is the younger and only surviving son of Mr. Joseph P. McCann, of Beaumont, Co. Meath, and was educated at St. Augustine's College, Ramsgate, Kent. He obtained his commission in the Leinster Regiment in April, 1915, before his eighteenth birthday. In July, 1916, he was sent tp France, and was wounded in the battle of the Somme. In the following October he was awarded the Military Cross for conspicuous gallantry in carrying out a daring raid. He was shortly afterwards promoted and, later, for further gallantry in action he was awarded a Bar to his M.C.
