Information: Lieut. Colonel Hugh St. John Jefferies, who has recently been awarded the D.S.O., joined the Worcestershire Regiment in 1900, and saw active service in South Africa during 1901-1902, and was wounded. Later he served in Bermuda, West Indies, Malta and India, and proceeded to France shortly alter war was proclaimed in 1914, and took part in the battle of the Aisne, when he sustained wounds and was sent back to England. After his recovery he was at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, during 1915-1916, but last year again saw him at the front, when he took part in the Somme offensive and commanded a battalion of the West Yorkshires in the autumn operations in Flanders, east of Ypres. Lt.-Col. Jefferies belongs to a well known Co. Wexford family.
