Information: Second Lieutenant John Hawkins Smyth, Leinster Regiment, youngest son of Mr. Henry Smyth, Finure, Whitegate, Co. Cork. He was educated at Kilkenny College, and entered Trinity College with a Hebrew Sizarship in 1912. Two years later he won the Wall Scholarship. In November, 1915, he obtained his commission in the Leinster Regiment. He went to France early in December, 1916, and was killed at Vimy Ridge on April 12th, 1917, in his 21st year.
