Information: Second Lieutenant John Anthony O'Sullivan, Royal Flying Corps, who was killed in action in France on May 27th, 1917, was the only son of Mr. P.F. O'Sullivan, M.I.C.E.I., Chief Engineer of the Dublin United Tramways Co., and was in his 21st year. He was educated at Belvedere College, Dublin, and was a very keen sportsman and athlete. In September, 1914, he went to Newcastle-on-Tyne to take up the profession of motor engineering, and shortly afterwards joined the Army as a Motor Cyclist Despatch Rider. In April, 1915, during his first week in France he took despatches through Ypres under heavy shell fire. In January, 1916, whilst carrying despatches, he was wounded, and invalided home. On recovery he joined the Royal Flying Corps, and obtained his wings on May 2nd, 1917. He again left for the front on May 12th, 1917.
