Information: Second Lieutenant Sydney James Livingston Downey, who was killed in action on June 7th, 1917, was the second son of the late James Livingston Downey, J.P., manager of a branch of the Northern Banking Co., Ltd., Donegall Sq., Belfast, and of Mrs. Downey, 7 Hampden Terrace, eldest daughter of the late Rev. Geo. Crow, College Gardens, Belfast. He was educated at the Methodist College, and was for some time prior to getting his commission with the Northern Assurance Co. He received his commission on the 5th January, 1916, through the University O.T.C., and was attached to the 20th Royal Irish Rifles. He went to France on the 15th June, 1916, where he was transferred to the 14th Royal Irish Rifles, and was in his 21st year when he fell.
