Information: Lieutenant H. K. Purcell, Leinster Regiment, was the son of Mr. Daniel Purcell, 45 Lr. Leeson Street, Dublin. He was educated at Belvedere and Clongowes Wood Colleges, Heidelberg University and Paris, an M.A. of R.U.I., 1st Prizeman and senior Moderator, mental science, and modern literature, gold medallist T.C.D. He practised at the Irish Bar for three years previous to joining the Army in September, 1914. He served in the Leinster Regiment for 6 months in France, commanding a Company on the Somme, where he was first wounded. He was severely wounded at the battle of Guillemont whilst leading his men.
