Information: Captain J.P. Roche M.C., Trench Mortar Battery, who was killed at Messines Ridge on June 7th, 1917, was the son of Mr. S. B. Roche, Monasterevan, and was educated at Blackrock College and the National University. On the outbreak of the war he joined as a private, and received his commission shortly afterwards. For gallant services in the field he was awarded the Military Cross and promoted captain, and was attached to the Royal Munster Fusiliers.
