Information: Second Lieutenant Harry Merslen Bussey, 1st Royal Irish Fusiliers, who was reported killed in action on May 3rd, was the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bussey, of Ardfillan Road, Catford, and grandson of Mr. Harry Findlater Bussey, the well known London journalist, for many years sub-editor of the Evening Standard, and author of “Sixty Years of Journalism.” On the outbreak of war, he resigned his post in Dublin, and, although under age, “joined up” as a private in the 8th Royal Fusiliers, and in January of this year he received his commission. He was severely wounded at Armentieres in 1915. He was wounded a second time in the “great push” on the Somme in 1916. He had only been in France some three weeks after receiving his commission, before he was killed. He took a great interest in all sports, and was a member of the Lewisham Championship Athletic Team in 1907.
