Information: Second Lieutenant (temporary Captain) George Francis Lambert Porter, West Yorks Regiment, was killed in action on June 8th, 1917, after a gallant and successful fight. His Colonel pays a high tribute to Lieutenant Porter's bravery, and had recommended him for the Victoria Cross. He was the son of Mr. G. W. F. Porter, 10 Vernon Parade, Clontarf, and previous to the outbreak of the war had obtained his military training with the South Irish Horse, of which corps he was a member for five years. Lieutenant Porter was well known in sporting and musical circles, and had on several occasions won the gold and silver medals awarded at the Feis Ceoil. His youngest brother, Cyril, was killed in Serbia, in December, 1915.
