Information: Lieutenant Colonel Eric Beresford Greer M.C. D.S.O., Irish Guards, was killed in action on July 31st, 1917, whilst gallantly leading his regiment. He was the elder and last surviving son of Captain and Mrs. Greer, of Curragh Grange, Co. Kildare, and was in his 24th year. He was educated at Eton and Sandhurst and in September, 1911, was gazetted to the Irish Guards. He went to France with the 1st Battalion in August, 1914, and took part in every battle in which the Guards were engaged until he fell on July 31st. He was awarded the M.C. and later the D.S.O. and at the age of twenty-four was promoted Lieutenant-Colonel in command of a battalion of the Irish Guards.
