Information: Lieutenant James Wilson McBurney, Royal Irish Rifles, who was killed in action on 16th August, 1917, was the younger son of Mr. Thomas McBurney, Moatville, Comber, Co. Down, and was educated at Belfast Royal Academical Institution, and was a member of Queen's University O.T.C. He enlisted from the schoolroom before he had reached his 17th year, and was subsequently promoted to a Cadet Battalion. He received his commission in September, 1916, was posted to the Royal Irish Rifles at Newtownards and left for France in the following December.
