Information: Capt. (Temp. Lieut. Col.) Sydney Herbert Beattie has been awarded the Military Cross for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He took over command during consolidation, and by his personal coolness, initiative and resource, supervised the work under fire, remaining at his post although wounded. Capt. Beattie went to the front in October, 1914, and was invalided home with frostbite contracted in the trenches. On recovery he returned to France in March, 1915, and was wounded in July last. He is the son of Alderman Beattie, 46 Fitzwilliam Square.
