Information: Captain Herbert Callear, Royal Dublin Fusiliers, who was killed in action on August 16th, aged 27, years, was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Callear, 10 Ardee Street. Dublin. He was educated principally at Elstow School, Bedford, where he was a member of the O.T.C. He volunteered on the outbreak of war, and was gazetted Second Lieutenant in September, 1914. Lieutenant. February, 1915, and Captain in May, 1916. He served through the battle of Guillemont, and was invalided home with shell-shock in September, 1916. He returned to the front in April, 1917, and on June 7th received his parchment for gallant conduct and devotion to duty after Wytschaete.
