Information: Captain Charles M'Master M.C., Royal Irish Rifles, who was killed in action on September 16th, 1917, was a son of Mr. J. M'Master, Rose Lodge, Bloomfield, Belfast, and was a member of the firm of John M'Master & Sons, contractors, Belfast. On the outbreak of war he received his commission in the Young Citizen Volunteers and was subsequently transferred to a trench mortar battery with which he served through the Somme advance. He was subsequently invalided home, but returned to the front in the early summer and was attached to the Royal Irish Rifles, and served with that regiment until he fell in action. Captain M'Master had been awarded the Military Cross for gallantry in action.
