Information: Captain Thomas Mitchell Hoffe, Cape Corps, East African Expeditionary Force, died on September 23rd, 1917, from pneumonia, contracted while on active service. Captain Hoffe had served through the last two years of the South African war, gaining his badge for conspicuous bravery. On the outbreak of the present war he was farming in Natal, but at once joined the Natal Carbineers and served through the German South West African campaign. At the time of his death he was Captain and Adjutant of the Cape Corps, East African Expeditionary Force. He was the third son of the late Rev. John Hoffe and Mrs. Hoffe, Merton House, Arklow.
