Information: Second Lieutenant (Acting Captain) V.A.B. Cranwill, 2nd East Lancashire Regiment, has been awarded the Military Cross for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the operations 31st July-1st August East of Ypres. He led his company throughout the attack, and having gained his objective, consolidated, moving about encouraging his men. Although exposed continuously to rifle and machine gun fire, he showed utter disregard for his personal safety. Captain Cranwill is the eldest son of Mrs. T. Butler Cranwill, 10 Mountpelier Parade, Monkstown, Dublin. He was educated at Monkstown Park School and Derby School.
