Information: Lieutenant Joseph Patrick Coghlan M.C., Royal Engineers, who was killed in action on September 20th, 1917. was the son of Mr. D. Coghlan. 15 Waltham Terrace, Blackrock, and was educated at Blackrock College and University College Dublin, where he had a distinguished career and graduated with honours.He entered the regular army in 1915, having passed with distinction through the Military Academy, Woolwich, and the Military Engineering School, Chatham. He went to France in September, 1916, and served through many heavy engagements, he gained the Military Cross in July, 1917, for gallantry in constructing fencing, under very heavy machine gun fire.
