Information: Major P.M. Maxwell M.C., was the younger son of the late Colonel R.J. Maxwell, formerly of Islanmore, Co. Limerick. He was born in 1892, and educated at Bedford Grammar School and the Royal Military Academy. In September, 1912, he joined a battery of the R.F.A. quartered at Kildare, where he remained until August, 1914. He also rode in various point-to-points, jumping competitions, and Horse Shows, and with his mare, Vanitas, scored some successes. On reaching France in August, 1914, his battery at once proceeded to Mons, and at the battle of Le Cateau he was severely wounded, and invalided home. In September, 1915, he went again to the front as Staff Captain to General Alexander, commanding an Artillery Battery. He was at the battle of Loos, and was mentioned in despatches, and in March, 1916, was given command of his battery. On 1st October he died of wounds received in reconnoitring on September 28th.
