Information: Captain Charles L. Waters M.C., son of Mr. George G. Waters, Midleton House, Co. Cork, died of wounds received in action in German East Africa, on October 19th, 1917, in his 24th year. He was educated at Downside Abbey, and was gazetted to the Royal Berkshire Regiment in May, 1905. In 1914-15 the task of maintaining order in Nigeria, during the absence of the greater part of the Nigeria Regiment in the Cameroons, fell almost entirely on him and his company, and during that time he took part in six punitive patrols and expeditions, and was mentioned in despatches. He went with the Nigerians to German East Africa in November, 1916, and during recent fighting was awarded the M.C. and died of wounds incurred during the heavy fighting, October 17th, 19th. Captain Waters was an ardent sportsman and shot.
