Information: 50774 Private Harold Thorp, R.A.M.C., who died of wounds received in action on September 22nd, 1917, was the only son of the late Mr. John William Thorp, Bessbrook, and Mrs. Thorp, Rockfort House, Kingstown. He was educated at Newry Intermediate School and Sedbergh Grammar School, from which he won an entrance scholarship into Oxford. He subsequently entered the Civil Service, and in January, 1915, volunteered for military service, and joined the R.A.M.C. He was awarded a parchment certificate and the Military Medal for gallant conduct and fine behaviour in the field.
